ZERO BASECAMP GENERATOR FUEL FOR 6 WEEKS!

Production 42 achieved ZERO basecamp generator fuel use over a six-week period covering 29 operating days through the strategic use of Haddad’s next-generation 296-kWh Hybrid Basecamp Battery with Tier 4 generator and one Haddad’s 198-kWh tractor-mounted Basecamp Battery working in tandem to support the full basecamp load.

Basecamp equipment included:

  • (1) 6 Station HMU trailer pulled by Haddad’s 296-kWh Hybrid Basecamp Battery Stake-bed
  • (1) Honeywagon trailer with 14 solar panels pulled by a 198-kWh Haddad’s Battery Tractor
  • (1) 53’ Wardrobe trailer semi
  • (1) Solar/electric two-room star trailer
  • (1) Solar/electric three-room star trailer

These results were made possible through a collaborative effort between Haddad’s boots on the ground, Local 817 drivers, and the Local 52 basecamp electrician. Local 52 Basecamp Electrician did an excellent job coordinating best practices for the utilization of Haddad’s 296 kWh Hybrid Basecamp Battery and 198 kWh Basecamp Battery. He carefully managed energy distribution based on the daily basecamp layout, helping ensure the system operated efficiently and reliably throughout production.

Recharging Haddad’s Basecamp Batteries and solar/electric trailers occurred at Haddad’s K-Lot in Brooklyn, NY. Units returned to Haddad’s parking lots overnight, allowing the batteries to recharge fully while the equipment was staged and ready for the next day’s shoot.

During the final two days of shooting, for logical business reasons the crew decided not to have the 296-kWh Basecamp Battery return to Haddad’s K-Lot for overnight charging. The crew’s plan was to recharge the unit at stage. This plan failed because the stage did not have adequate power available. As a result, the crew used the Hybrid unit’s onboard Tier 4 generator to recharge the 296-kWh Basecamp Battery.

Over the six-week period, Haddad’s 296 kWh and 198 kWh Basecamp Battery units powered basecamp operations 99% of the time, delivering a combined 696 hours of simultaneous battery runtime. This battery-supported operation resulted in an estimated savings of approximately 2,708 gallons of diesel. This estimate is based on Production 42’s actual basecamp generator burn rate of 3.89 gallons per hour. Based on current diesel pricing of approximately $6.90 per gallon, this equates to an estimated fuel cost savings of approximately $18,681 over the production period.

The onboard generators on the Wardrobe, Hair & Makeup, and Honeywagon used 154 gallons of diesel over a combined total of 387 hours. This equates to approximately 0.40 gallons per hour over 31 operating days. This fuel use reflects typical startup and shutdown periods at the beginning and end of each day, before Haddad’s Basecamp Batteries were turned on or after they were turned off.

Haddad’s solar trailers used a total of 2,659.64 kWh. The solar panels captured 387.60 kWh of solar production, a deficiency of 2,272.04 kWh. This equates to a 14.57% Solar usage efficiency or 316 hours and 11 minutes of solar run time.

ZERO BASECAMP GENERATOR FUEL USE IS HERE!
HADDAD’S BASECAMP BATTERIES ARE MAKING IT POSSIBLE!

Production 42’s 31 operating days demonstrated a clear shift in what is possible for production basecamp operations. Through the collaboration of studios, production, Teamsters, IATSE, and Haddad’s onsite team, Haddad’s Basecamp Batteries prove that cleaner power can be integrated into the daily rhythm of a working set without compromising reliability.

These results show that sustainability is no longer just a concept, but a practical standard that can be achieved through the right equipment, planning, and teamwork. Production 42 stands as a strong example of how Haddad’s Basecamp Batteries can help move the industry forward by eliminating fuel use, emissions, noise, and generator dependency while supporting the real-world demands of modern production!
